Designing Moana Pasifika's Members ID Cards

Project Overview

Refreshing the design of Moana Pasifika's members cards for the 2026 season of Super Rugby Pacific competition.

There are two tiers of memberships. Kaivai which is the premium top end with a high price point and Tula'i which is a more affordable membership.

The cards are typically printed on a plastic substrate on both the front and back. The front's are bulk printed as a patch at an external supplier.

For the first time in the cllubs history we were were going to tailor each ID card for each memeber.

My Contributions

I created the designs for the fronts of the cards by drawing on the and Moana's rich illustrative library of Pasifika influences.

I designed and built the artwort for the cards in Adobe InDesign and the illstrations were created in Adobe Illustrator.

There were 3 styles of lanyards also created in the brand colours go with each card.

Creating the back the ID cards was an interesting challenge.
Working in conjunction with the memberships team,

I designed the back of the ID cards in InDesign and used mail merge to designate several text boxes as dynamic fields that could then be populated from a linked Exel spreadsheet.

The fields pulled from the Excel spreadsheets supplied by membership were the ticket number, zone, seat and a scannable QR.

The spreadsheets were cleaned up and preppared before being converted to a CSV format and then connected to Adobe InDesign to batch generate PNG files for each back for each memeber.
